Ordering Prescriptions

If you are receiving regular treatment you can obtain your repeat prescription without seeing pharmacist/pharmacy technician or doctor. You may, however, be asked to see the pharmacist/pharmacy technician or doctor on occasion to ensure everything is as it should be.

When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.

By Post

You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice

You must include a stamped addressed envelope for return by post if you will not be able to pick up your prescription from the Surgery. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.

Please note we will NOT accept prescription requests over the telephone.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked at least once a year to review these; some medication may require more regular review.

For certain medications you may be required to come in for regular monitoring. This could be 3, 6 or 12 monthly depending on the medication.

Please note we will be unable to continue to provide repeat prescriptions without up-to-date monitoring or blood test results.

Medication reviews are undertaken by the GP or Pharmacist and can either be a face-to-face appointment or alternatively, more are being undertaken over the telephone as a telephone appointment.

There are a couple of exceptions where our nursing staff will review medication if you attend one of our specialist clinics e.g. diabetes or asthma but it is always good to check if you are not sure.

Please book in for monitoring as soon as you are invited to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions. This could be a telephone appointment or a face-to-face appointment.

Repeat Dispensing

If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing. This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines. A 3 or 6 month batch can be sent to your local pharmacy depending on the medication you take. If you would like further information, please speak to the Medicines Management Team.

Prescribing of Over The Counter Medicines is Changing

As per the NHS Self Care Policy our GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community
